The Right|s of Spring co-directed with Maria Stamenkovic Herranz, is a dance theatre performance inspired by Ballets Russes original The Rite of Spring. Through drag art it confronts patriarchal notions of gender whilst looking for new rituals that reflect modernity’s insatiable appetite for consuming popular culture. With so much digital noise it’s not so simple anymore to know who we are. What within us needs to awaken at the arrival of Spring?
Feminine, masculine, and all that lies between; meet Kitty Sparkle. She’s a drag artist. Her gender flows as easily as her many facades. She can entertain and dance for you. She can make you laugh, and maybe cry, but she will also carry you into the dark and beautiful corners of her mind where we can all find a way to fly far far from here. Escaping into the realms of our imagination and a utopian freedom, so we too can have the right to be whoever or whatever we choose.
